(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Hwang Jae-ha = ‘My dear, I will wait. If my tearful letter reaches the sky, you will one day come back to me.’
Seo Ji-won’s ‘Collect My Tears’ plays from a portable cassette tape player. When Han Jun-hee (played by Jeon Yeo-bin), who was listening to music with earphones, comes to her senses, she wakes up in the body of her high school student named Kwon Min-joo, who looks exactly like her from 25 years ago.
In front of the confused Han Jun-hee is Nam Si-heon, a high school student who looks exactly like her lover Koo Yeon-jun (Ahn Hyo-seop), who left Jun-hee’s side in an accident a year ago.
All episodes of ‘Into Your Time’, a domestic remake of the Taiwanese drama ‘Sanggyeonni’ that aired from 2019 to 2020, were released on Netflix on the 8th.
‘Sanggyeonni’ is a drama that has become very popular in Korea due to its interesting story and the excellent acting skills of the actors, giving rise to the new term ‘Sangchin’ (crazy about sanggyeonni).
Attention is being paid to whether ‘Into Your Time’ will surpass the popularity of the original by faithfully following the story flow of ‘Sanggyeonni’ and embodying the sensibility of Korea in 1998, the main stage of the work, with various props and popular songs of the time.

◇ Faithfully following the original work while adding ‘details’ and Korean sensibility
In 1998, just before Han Jun-hee appeared, Kwon Min-joo confessed that he liked Nam Si-heon, but was rejected and frustrated. Nam Si-heon and her close friend Jeong In-gyu (Kang Hoon) like Kwon Min-joo, so these three have a love triangle.
In this situation, the relationship between the three changes as Kwon Min-ju wakes up as Han Jun-hee with a completely different personality.
Han Jun-hee discovers in Nam Si-heon something similar to Koo Yeon-jun, whom she longed for, Nam Si-heon feels attracted to Kwon Min-joo’s bold and bright appearance, which has changed from before, and Jeong In-gyu is no longer as excited about Kwon Min-joo as he used to be.
After moving through time several times, Han Jun-hee realizes that Nam Si-heon entered the body of the future Koo Yeon-jun through time travel and came to her, just as he became Kwon Min-ju.
The story of how the two main characters, while having fond memories of each other, meet the other person who does not remember them and grow in love, was portrayed in an interesting way.
This story structure and the relationships between the characters are mostly consistent with ‘Sanggyeonni’.
However, just as the time travel music that was Taiwan’s popular song ‘Last Dance’ in the original became ‘Collect My Tears’ in ‘Into Your Time’, detailed elements were changed to add new fun.
In particular, the main characters go back and forth between various eras, including 2002 and 2007, in addition to the main years of 1998 and 2023, and various props effectively depict Korea through each era.
The design of the buses is different depending on the era, the mobile phones used also change from feature phones to smartphones, and in 2002, World Cup cheering was in full swing, and in 2007, ‘detailed’ attractions such as the use of Cyworld gave the drama a Korean feel. put on
Various remade music also adds emotion. In the scene where the two main characters fatefully reunite, ‘Neverending Story’ is played, and in addition, nostalgic famous songs such as ‘Beautiful Redemption’, ‘Already One Year’, and ‘Between Love and Friendship’ delight the ears.

◇ The performances of actors who are comparable to the original work are a must-see
At the production presentation held on the 4th, director Kim Jin-won praised the actors’ acting by saying, “The strength of our drama is the acting of the actors.”
In the original work, actress Ke Jia-yan played the two main characters, Huang Yu-xuan and Chen Yun-ru, with completely different personalities, and won the Best Actress Award at the Golden Bell at Taiwan’s Broadcast Awards Ceremony.
Jeon Yeo-bin, the lead actress in ‘Into Your Time’, also gave a great performance in the two roles of Han Jun-hee, who is sharp and has a clear opinion, and Min-joo Kwon, who is timid and introverted.
Jeon Yeo-bin expressed that she had become a different person in every way, from her gaze, to her gait, to her way of speaking. Although 36-year-old office worker Han Jun-hee and 18-year-old high school student Kwon Min-joo are twice the age difference, it is difficult to feel awkward in Jeon Yeo-bin’s acting.
Ahn Hyo-seop, who played Nam Si-heon and Goo Yeon-jun, and Kang Hoon, who delicately expressed the fluctuating emotions in the love triangle with his best friend, also raised the level of perfection of the drama.

◇ Unresolved questions… The shortcomings of the original remain intact.
‘Into Your Time’ inherited the strengths of the original, but at the same time, it also followed the somewhat disappointing parts left behind by the original.
Questions related to the plausibility of the story are never resolved, such as why time travel is possible and sometimes not even when listening to cassette music, and why Han Jun-hee and Kwon Min-ju or Nam Si-heon and Koo Yeon-jun look the same.
The sad narrative of Goo Yeon-jun just before Nam Si-heon takes over his body is depicted, but it is also disappointing that the backstory is omitted.
